Calcite, or calcium carbonate, is one of the most common minerals on earth, and as such it is one of the most varied in terms of structure and color. There are hundreds of different forms. Calcite is one of my personal favorites. This elegant one is faceted and set in sterling silver, with a spiral design on the inside.

Malachite, copper carbonate hydroxide, is a dark green stone with bands of paler shades moving across it. It is a medium to soft mineral, and when polished has a very soft texture. They are found in Russsia, Africa, the American southwest and Mexico.
