Paua Pendant

April 21, 2008

The New Zealand paua was hand picked by a friend. I cut and shaped the shell so that it would set nicely around a sterling silver circular wave pattern. The design has personal significance for the one who ordered it. I like it because the myth of the seventh wave springs to mind. Every seventh wave is a stronger, higher wave. This helps to make people aware of the surprise nature of the sea.

Sacred Springs

April 13, 2008

Before I set a stone in silver, it is dipped in water from one of the many sacred wells in Ireland.
Here it is custom to visit a ‘holy well’ to connect with the healing forces of nature. Some wells have specific cures for parts of the body and most all are dedicated to saints, holy women and men.
I visit them because they are peaceful places where time seems to stand still. I am aware that the earth has provided me with precious stones to work with, and that they are not an unlimited supply. When I cleanse a stone, I intend to bring the sacred into my jewellery so that the people who wear it will benefit from the gem’s healing essence.
