Barite

I have shaped a small gloden-honey colored Barite from Namibia and it is gorgeous beyond belief. This oxygen-sulfur-barium composite mineral has an orthorhombic crystal structure. Barite takes forms such as rose, tabular and blade. You may have seen the desert Rose? Barites can be clear white, to densely/sandy colored brown and red. They are sometimes found on a base of dolomite, galena, or pyrite. This is a favorite stone because of its dense yet light form that is like a contradiction in itself! Paring up with some seriously heavy mates like pyrite brings on a wonderful contrast, too. Some say Barite is also called Solomon’s Seal.
